Description
What is Bitbox? The Bitbox Wallet is an easy to use USB-C hardware wallet that is designed to store and manage bitcoin securely. It is a product of Swiss company Shift Crypto and was launched in 2015. You can plug it in to your computer or smartphone and use the Bixbox software to sign transactions or generate new receiving addresses. The wallet is based on open source software.
In addition, you can buy bitcoin directly in the BitBoxApp using Pocket exchange. Pocket is a Swiss bitcoin exchange that automatically exchanges your bank transfers into bitcoin and sends them directly to your own bitcoin wallet with no account or registration.
BitBox is known for its privacy and security measures, which include a physical secure element chip that stores the user’s private keys, secure Multisig, Tor support, end-to-end encryption of communication between the app and the device. The BitBox wallet supports multiple cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin. It’s possible to use a bitcoin only edition. The wallet is also compatible with a number of popular desktop and mobile wallets, including Electrum and MyEtherWallet.
Bitbox hardware wallet enables you to securely back up your bitcoin seed by storing it on a microSD card. This approach minimizes the risk of losing your funds due to human error when transcribing the seed words.
Bitcoin-only edition for bitcoin maximalists: The BitBox02 Bitcoin-only edition will only ever have Bitcoin firmware. Nothing else. Unlike other hardware wallets, the Bitcoin-only edition cannot be reset to support other coins. The Bitcoin-only firmware is locked down at factory setup.
In addition to its security and privacy features, BitBox BTC wallet is also known for its compact size and portability, as it is small enough to fit in a pocket or be carried on a keychain. It also has a user-friendly interface and is simple to set up and use.
One potential downside to the BitBox wallet is its price, as it is relatively expensive compared to some other hardware wallets on the market. Moreover, the BitBox requires a separate device, a smartphone or computer, to fully interact with it. However, this can also be seen as a security feature, as it reduces the attack surface of the wallet. Generally, the BitBox is a reliable and secure option for managing your bitcoin.
While Bitbox mobile app is only available for Android devices, its desktop app is compatible with Windows, macOS and Linux.
